Project Background

This workshop is part of the Innovate UK QEC Project, which aims to harness the potential of quantum computing for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. The project addresses key technical challenges to achieve a commercially viable quantum advantage, bringing together a consortium of partners dedicated to this groundbreaking endeavour.

Strategic Adviser and Investor with Four Decades of Military Leadership

Andrew Turner

Andrew Turner is a strategic adviser to Universal Quantum and an investor/adviser in emerging fossil-free fuel, hydrogen storage, quantum, AI, e-commerce, e-logistics, space launch, strategic intelligence and government security advice companies. He served in the Royal Air Force for 4 decades holding appointments as the RAF Deputy Chief, DG UK Global Military Operations, Chancellor of the Defence Technical University, Head of UK Military Planning and a battlefield helicopter pilot serving on 19 combat operations.

PhD, CEO & Founder at QURECA

Araceli Venegas-Gomez

With a background in both industry and academia, Dr. Araceli Venegas-Gomez is the founder and CEO of QURECA. QURECA creates a link between the different stakeholders in the quantum community through a common language, providing a range of professional services, business development, and the solution to the quantum workforce skills bottleneck: the first online platform for quantum training and resourcing, to support individuals and businesses to be part of the quantum revolution.

PhD, Quantum Researcher at Vodafone Group

Chloé X. Ai

Dr. Ai is a mathematician and quantum researcher at Vodafone Group R&D. She works on theoretical study and practical applications of quantum algorithms in both NISQ and Fault-tolerant era. She is also investigating the impact of quantum computing on the cryptography. In addition, she is also interested in the mathematical theory of quantum error correction.

Digital Science Associate, BP

Claudia Perry

Having completed her university studies in maths and computer science, Claudia joined bp’s digital security team, where she developed knowledge of the information security industry, and led company-wide behavioural change programmes, aiming to lower cyber risk across the organisation.

In her current digital research and development role, she continues to work with emerging ‘trust technologies’, but has a greater focus on quantum technologies from an end-user perspective. In working to understand the future quantum landscape, Claudia enjoys collaborating with organisations large and small from across the ecosystem. She represents bp in their UKQuantum consortium membership, and is chair of the UKQuantum Responsible Quantum Innovation working group.

Rolls-Royce Fellow and Quantum Computing Pioneer

Leigh Lapworth

Prof Leigh Lapworth is a Rolls-Royce Fellow specialising in Computational Science. He is also an Honorary Professorial Fellow in Computer Science at the University of Warwick. Leigh has over 30 years’ experience of developing and applying physics-based simulation using High Performance Supercomputers. He leads Rolls-Royce’s Quantum Computing initiatives including multiple national and international collaborative research projects. He also leads Rolls-Royce’s exascale computing initiative in collaboration with leading UK universities. His research interest is the industrial application of error-corrected quantum linear equation solvers and has published assessments of the HHL and QSVT algorithms.

Sebastian Weidt

Sebastian is the co-founder and CEO of Universal Quantum. UQ is venture capital backed scale-up working on constructing commercial quantum computers that will change the world for the better. He has grown Universal Quantum to a 50+ strong team of exceptional engineers, scientists and operational staff operating in the UK, US and Germany.

Sebastian is also a Professor in Quantum Computing and Entrepreneurship at the University of Sussex in the UK. His technical work around quantum computing, for example, led to the development of the world’s first blueprint for constructing a large-scale trapped-ion quantum computer, capable of unlocking some of the most exciting applications of this technology.
